Hilton Head Island Golf
The word golf in a thesaurus, the first synonym listed would be “Hilton Head Island”. O.K., maybe not. But it should be.
Everyone probably knows that the golf here on Hilton Head Island is plentiful and world class caliber. Pros from around the world come here to play because of the quality and choice of courses. Amateurs will definitely get better, especially if they take advantage of a great lesson or two from one of the superior golf pros we selfishly keep here all to ourselves. And the average lover of golf? Well, welcome to paradise, my friend! All the resort areas on the island provide excellent golfing opportunities while you are here. Have your vacation rental company find you a condo right on the golf course of your choice, and be prepared to spend some quality time with your clubs and the beautiful sub tropical foliage that surrounds you at each tee. You will probably meet an alligator or two also. Don’t worry, though, they will give you your ball back. Usually.
The most famous course on the island is Harbour Town Golf Links, located in Sea Pines Resort. Harbour Town Golf Links hosts the nationally televised PGA RBC Heritage Golf Tournament each year, right after the Masters. Come rub elbows with the pros (maybe some of their skill will rub off on you!) during this popular and exciting tournament.
Hilton Head Island is so famous for its amazing golf courses, even if you are not a golfer, you will feel compelled to hit a bucket of balls or ride down the 18th fairway in one of those neat little carts. Who cares if you have no clue what you are doing, you are on Hilton Head Island, and here we do golf, better than anyone else.
When people think of the prototype planned-development resort on the East Coast, they typically think "Hilton Head" and then they think "Golf!"

| The three courses, Brigantine, Clipper and Galleon, feature 27 holes of championship golf with four tee positions to accommodate all levels of play, and there are ample risk and reward situations to allow optimal scoring opportunities. Accurate tee shots and well-measured approaches are a must on this championship course. The greens are large and well bunkered, and their undulating surfaces demand a delicate, yet determined touch. Adding to the beauty and character of these courses are many lagoons and ponds, which must be negotiated if you are to play to your handicap. |
Offers two unique courses designed by award winning course architects Arthur Hills and Robert Cupp, the courses are intended to challenge and reward players of all skill levels.
Opened in 1991 the Arthur Hills Course is heavily wooded with towering pines and moss-draped oaks, the lush fairways roll past crystalline lakes. Protected greens, edged with bunkers provide golfers with challenges, while the The Robert Cupp course built in 1993 is a stunningly original design that tests the better player, but accommodates higher handicappers as well.

With 54 holes created by three designers, you can experience a new challenge everyday with each course. First you have the Barony course, designed by George W. Cobb, it is one of the first courses on the island but the newly resurfaced Bermuda greens turn it into a challenge. Second is Willard C. Byrds' Planter's Row built in 1984 and it has water on 10 of the 18 holes along with narrow, tree lined fairway - are you up for it? And finally for a real treat try Robber's Row originally designed by Cobb & Byrd in 1967 but then redesigned by Pete Dye in 1994 - wow.
